I had some narrow drop-offs from a thick slab of black walnut lying around the studio. We squared off and finished the edges to create a clean, polished look. I wanted a strong contrast of materials, so for the opposite set of legs, I decided to use raw, gritty steel. This represents to me the two opposing emotions that arise when facing a challenge. Although I am very confident about my ability to build the akke brand, self-doubt occasionally sneaks into my mind. To highlight this opposition, I positioned the wooden legs on one side of the table and the steel legs on the other. On the top, the interweaving of the two materials represents this constant battle. The name represents how these emotions make me feel like I’m a different person from one day to the next.
